"The response of 33 winter wheat varieties and 12 spring wheat varieties to artificial infection with Fusarium culmorum was evaluated in field experiments lasting three years (2011\u20132013) on the basis of mycotoxin DON (deoxynivalenol) content in grain, symptomatic reaction, % of Fusarium damaged grains and reduction of grain yield traits. The lowest mean and variation in DON content were determined in the varieties Dagmar, Cimrmanova ran\u00E1, Turandot and Samanta and in spring wheat varieties Sumai 3 and V\u00E1nek. Heterosis compared to parental mean and to more resistant parent was evaluated in 28 F1 crosses between current winter wheat varieties for DON content and FHB symptoms. Heterosis for resistance was common and it was indicated by these experiments that selection of transgressive segregates from heterotic combinations should be feasible. The obtained results are mainly encouraging the development of resistant hybrid wheat varieties.
