"The conventional tillage (CT), reduced tillage (RT) and no-tillage (NT) systems are carried out in orthic Luvisol in Prague-Ruzyn\u011B (Czech Republic) since 1995. The soil biological characteristics under different tillage systems were studied from the year 2001 to 2004. The distribution of biological activities in the layers O-O. lm, 0.1-0.2m and 0.2-0.3m was compared. Generally, a moderate increase of the soil organic carbon content, the microbial biomass C and the dehydrogenase activity was observed in all kinds of treatment from the year 2001 to 2004. The biological and microbial characteristics changed in dependence on the soil depth, particularly under RT and NT. The contents of soil organic carbon and microbial characteristics were more balanced throughout the layers under conventional treatment than under RT and NT. The acumulation of the organic carbon and consequently the increase of the microbial biomass C and its dehydrogenase activity in the surface layer was found under RT and NT. Compared"@en .
