"Wheat ears suspicious of Fusarium head blight (FHB) were collected in four year period (2003-2006) in all winter wheat growing regions of Czech Republic by the State Phytosanitary Administration. Significantly higher contamination of grain by mycotoxin DON (10,84 mg/kg)was found with the preceding crop maize and application of reduced tillage. It was found that disease control should respect, besides cultivar and fungicide specificities, particularly effects of years, regions and preceding crops. Fungicides based on tebuconazole and metconazole were reported to suppress FHB and accumulation of DON , however, cereal protection by this means was not sufficient under all conditions. Particularly with delayed applications and reduced dosage the protection was found ineffective.
