"Dehydrins belong to protein family of Lea D11 proteins. They are cgharacterized by the presence of K-segment near the carboxy terminus of the protein. Expression of dehydrins is induced by stress factors which cause plant tissue dehydration, e.g. drought, cold, salinity and aplication of abscisic acid. In recent years, 12 dehydrin genes have been identified and characterized in barley which are expressed under specific stress conditions mentioned above.
