"Dendroctonus valens became a serious pest of pine foresr (Pinus tabulaeformis) in Chines provinces Shanxi, Hebei and Henan. It ccurrs in an area of 500 000 hectares. His harmfulness and distribution were studied. The beetle occurs in the highest parts o f mountains. It attacks the trees just above the ground or up to 20 cm above the ground a therefore the whole tree dries up. Those poorly accessible mountains were successfully afforested 50 years ago and the forests are now badly endangered. The resear ch will concentrate on bionomy, origin of the attack and natural enemies of the beetle."@en .
