"Role of the hybrid resistance against main fungal diseases in the system of their control and methods of the disease resistance testing are discussed. P. halstedii occurs sporadically and our main goal is to prevent its spreading. Only fungicides treatedseeds may be used. A race spectrum in the Czech Republic is not known up to now. New hybrids in the State variety trials are tested on naturally infected field. From 44 hybrids tested in the year 2002, 37 hybrids were infected. l\u0165s inevitable to study the occurrence of Pl. halstedii races and to test the resistance of new hybrids using artificial inoculation in the glasshouse. Resistance against S. sclerotiorum is tested using inoculation in the stems, on the edge of the leaves or in the petiolar striae. Hybrids differ mainly in the resistance of the leaves and stems.
