"The aim of our study was to elucidate the relationship between central serotonergic activity and the outcome in cognitive testing within the framework of functional activity in the relevant brain regions. The interaction between serotonine and dopamine within mesolimbic and mesocortical areas probably represents the basic substrate for pathophysiology and therapy of schizophrenia. Methods: Tryptophan depletion method (in comparison with placebo) was used as the probe to the role of serotonine in cognition. Tryptophan is the precursor of serotonine and the tryptophan depletion decreases rapidly the level of brain serotonine. Functional Magnetic Resonance (fMR) is a sophisticated non-invasive neuroimaging method enabling to measure regional cerebral blood flow and elaborate dynamic functional maps of brain activity. fMR was used to detect the changes in neuronal activation in the brain with respect to different level of serotonergic transmission. Results: In the group of 20 healthy subjects we found the" . "SAP - Slovak Academic Press" . . "2002-06-01+02:00"^^ . "Tint\u011Bra, F." . . . . "RIV/00023752:_____/02:00000246" . . .
