There are many remarkable documents in the Archive of the National Technical Museum relating to that period, and the photo album titled Prinz Heinrich \u2013 Fahrt 1909 (Prince Heinrich Tour of 1909) belongs to the most interesting of them. The car race was established by Crown Prince Albert Wilhelm Heinrich of Prussia (1862\u20131929), brother of German Emperor Wilhelm II, in 1907. The Crown Prince was an enthusiastic motorist, racer, inventor, and sponsor of motorist events. This competition \u2013 a stage race with speed trials \u2013 proceeded under the patronage of the German Imperial Automobile Club, for the first time in 1908. In 1909, the Prinz Heinrich Fahrt took place from the 10th to the 18th of June. The start was at Tempelhofer Feld (Tempelhof Field) in Berlin; the next stage towns were Breslau, Tatransk\u00E1 Lomnice, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. The first two speed trials took place in Prussia: the first one between Guben and Krossen (6 km) and the second one in Forstenrieder Park near Munich (5.5 km). 108 cars were successfully driven on the track of a length of 1,857 km in total. The album contains 50 original positive images (size 11x5 cm2), glued to dark cardboard sheets. Unfortunately, we do not know the author of the pictures and the pictures are not labelled. Therefore, we presume that the album\u2019s owner knew both the surroundings and personalities quite well and had no need to attach labels. We assume that the pictures must have been made by a person who participated as an escort in the competition, or even by an accredited photographer. We can find here snapshots from acceptance of vehicles, from the start in Berlin, individual race stages, drives through towns, and speed trials; we also can follow the event\u2019s \u201Cbackstage\u201D: the situation at the car depot, groups of discussing competitors before start, watching viewers, and the atmosphere of various meetings of noble society."@en . .
