"RIV/00023299:_____/11:#0000183" . . . . "In the 1960s, a series of remarkable means of transport was developed and put into practice, with a significant contribution of industrial designers. One of the most prominent fields was development of driving rail vehicles, where the Czechoslovak industry was comparable to the best foreign production. The designers\u2019 tasks assumed a special importance in the time of spreading of locomotives of both engine and electric tractions. The thing is that it became necessary to design the casing of the new locomotives \u2013 the front end in particular; (the steam engines were missing these parts). As early as the 1950s, it can be seen that the designers\u2019 work was focused more on the overall design of the locomotive casing. In the subsequent few years, locomotives were developed for a serial production and the designers\u2019 work thus gradually penetrated deeper into the development procedure itself. The design solution by Otakar Dibl\u00EDk for the \u0160koda Pilsen Locomotive Factory (at that that time called V. I. Lenin Plants) of the early 1960s was not only accepted, but also served for selection of material of the casing \u2013 namely the laminate. Finally, the design proposal for the express train diesel-electric locomotive for the \u010CKD Factory by Milan M\u00ED\u0161ek and Bohumil M\u00EDra in 1963 was not confined to the shape solution, but considerably improved the functional characteristics. The latter primarily consisted in an original design of the locomotive windscreen: a firmer layer of the air mass is formed in front of the windscreen at high speed, which does not allow impurities to penetrate and provides a reliable outlook for the locomotive driver. The locomotives are still running today and the concept of their shape has timeless qualities. All that resulted from a close overall collaboration of designers and the project engineer.
