In this paper, the flood event is discussed on the Dubanka stream near the town Hermanuv Mestec on 30th May 2005. The event documents that if the runoff coefficient is extremely high (here due to the maize field in a sloping terrain) and the runoff area is enlarged due to the high water velocity in the stream (the high velocity is caused by the hydraulically unsuitable shape of the channel) an extreme flood can develop already from a relatively small rainfall. The paper compares hydrographs of flood waves developed in a deep smooth channel and in a natural small channel, and shows an important effect of the shape of a stream channel and its floodplain on the shape of a flood wave."@en .
