In forestry, many tree and stand characteristics can be acquired from remotely sensed data by using modern techniques of image analysis. Moreover, introducing such new technologies means considerable long-term cost reduction. The new remote sensing classification technique of tree species composition is based on the object oriented image analysis in eCognition software. It comprises two essential steps, the digitized aerial photo is firstly divided into segments using calculated (filtered) channels and these segments are then classified within feature space enlarged by filtered channels, texture measures and PCA components.
