"The occurrence of abiotic stresses determines to a great extent the variability of yield and grain quality of cereals under transitional climate conditions of Czech Republic. Most often, the water stress with related decrease of available nutrients in rooted soil volume is crucial for crops. In some years an adverse effect of both, low and high, temperatures on nutrient uptake and utilization may be important. The objectives of the project are to determine the response of cereals to abiotic stressesin relation to nutrient shortage or imbalance, to determine the effect of unfavorable conditions during grain filling, and to propose effective measures for minimization of yield reduction and for sustaining or improving quality traits. Research approaches are based on study of the effect of abiotic stresses on nutrient uptake and functions of leaves.
