"The project is based on a translational approach combining two animal models of early and later immune stimulation and longitudinal volumometric study in schizophrenia patients. The animal part includes i) model of early immune stimulation by lipopolysacharide applied at 5-9 postnatal day (PD), and ii) model of latent toxoplasmosis. In both models Th1/TH2 cytokines, behavioral tests, volumometry, enzymes and metabolites of kyunurenine pathway, glutamatergic and dopaminergic activity, neurodegeneration and microglia activation will be evaluated at PD 90. The human part is represented by prospective morphological, Th1/Th2 cytokines and T. gondii seropositivity evaluation in a group of 80 schizophrenia patients and 80 controls.
