"Autoimmune disorders affect approximately 2% of population in industrialized countries. These disorders are characterized by destruction of autologous tissues due to the immune response. The most important genetic region comprising increased risk for autoimmunity development is the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). The role of MHC class I and class II molecules is already known in relation to autoimmunity development; nevertheless the role of non class I/II MHC genes is not clear. Beside other genes involved in immune response, there are also three heat-shock protein (HSP) 70 genes located in this gene area. HSP70 genes are significantly involved in immune response regulation. In this study, we will analyze the regulation of expression and polymorphisms of all three MHC linked HSP70 genes in patients with systemic autoimmune disorders.
