"Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a severe disease complicating postoperative period after correction of congenital anomalies GIT(CA GIT). The cause of NEC is unknown and early diagnosis and distinguishing between NEC and sepsis or less threatening GIT problems remains impossible. We also do not have reliable data about gut microecology of neonate although microflora plays a central role in pathogenesis of NEC. We will use cytokeratin (CK)18 as serum biomarker for apoptosis and intestinal fatty acid binding protein (i-FABP), marker of early enterocyte death, to describe intestinal mucosal compromise in children with CA GIT. We will examine reliability of iFABP as predictive parameter for NEC, describe its dynamic after surgery for CA GIT and find out, if i-FABP and CK18 could be early markers for NEC. We will use newly developed molecular detection techniques to define more precisely all the species of bacteria present in the feaces/ileal effluents in NEC/sepsis cases."@en . .
