An ability of organism to react to such stimuli could influence the course and severity of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In a group of 100 patients with metabolic syndrome we will evaluate a presence of liver damage and a degree of inflammatory reaction, oxidative stress and some protective mechanisms including certain polymorphisms of heme oxygenase \u2013 1, ApoE or slight hyperbilirubinemia, as well as noninvasive parameters of hepatic fibrosis. At experimental model of NASH a role of oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction together with an effect of antioxidants and use of polyunasaturated fatty acids will be evaluated. The results could contribute to the assessment of the frequency and severity of liver disease in patients with MS and to identify of the role of protective mechanisms.
