The disorder of function or increased expression of the product of oncogene leads in a final consequence to the stimulation of tumour growth. Tumour suppressor genes encode proteins which inhibit cell division. When these genes are damaged it may happen that cells escape from control mechanisms and this also opens the way for tumour proliferation.
