"Our project is aimed to examine mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction in arterial hypertension, to consider the imbalance of increased sympathetic vasoconstriction and attenuated NO-dependent vasodilation and to detect impact on cell Ca2+ handling. Synthesis and inactivation of nitric oxide (NO) will be measured in various forms of experimental hypertension in the rat to reveal reasons for lowered NO bioavailability which is one of the major causes of endothelial dysfunction in hypertension. Attention will be focused on the production of oxygen free radicals and their role in NO inactivation and formation of toxic peroxynitrate in various forms of hypertension in order to evaluate possible modifications of oxygen free radical removal. The project importance is based upon the consideration of the influence of several types of antihypertensive and/or antioxidant therapy on various aspects of endothelial dysfunction in particular forms of hypertension (genetic, salt, NO-deficient)."@en .
