"The aim of the project is to find if oxidized LDL and/or oxidized fibrinogen mediate platelet function in vitro. The modification of proteins by oxidant species generated during activation of platelets will be detected. LDL from normal donors and from iron-overloaded patients will be isolated. Plasma antioxidant status will be estimated by several independent methods. Native LDL and Fbg will be modified by malondialdehyde and by Fenton-like reactions. Influence of patients\u00B4s LDL and of both modified LDL and Fbg on platelets will be studied using aggregometry and serotonin release reaction Oxidized proteins in activated platelets will be analyzed by Western blotting."@en .
