"The objectives of the project are the experimental quantification and mathematical modeling of the transport of radionuclides in saturated host rock environment for the purpose of the safety assessment of radioactive waste repositories. As reference radionuclides radionuclides of europium and iodine have been selected. 152,154Eu is a chemical analogue of trivalent actinides, moreover, 154Eu and 155Eu are present in the spent nuclear fuel as fission products of 235U, and 125I is the isotope of the important uranium fission product 129I. The migration will be studied under laboratory conditions in a maximum extent simulating natural situations. The studied mineral environment is represented by sediments of clastic character and so the results are applicable particularly for near surface disposal of radioactive wastes, and also for deep geological repositories, provided the near surface layers are formed by sedimentary minerals"@en . . . . . .
