"2015-12-31+01:00"^^ . . "The goal of the project is to understand the mechanism controling degradation of maternal RNA during zygote formation. The specific aim is to show that a correct timing of proteosynthesis of factors involved in RNA degradation is the key mechanism repeatedly employed for destabilization of maternal RNAs during oocyte-to-zygote transition. Many untranslated maternal RNAs accumulate in the oocyte during its growth phase. This phenomenon, known as dormancy, was described for a few genes. Our preliminary results suggest that dormancy may affect several genes involved in RNA degradation, which likely contributes to the stable environment supporting RNA accumulation in the oocyte. Thus, we will analyze the role of dormancy in three types of factors destabilizing RNA: 1) those degrading microRNAs, 2) those degrading mRNA through deadenylation and decapping, 3) RNA-specific nucleotidyl transferases.
