"The main aim of the project lies in identification and functional annotation of proteins isolated from developing grains of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) using two-dimensional differential gel electrophoresis (2D-DIGE) approach. For protein identification, proteins which exhibit significant differences in protein relative abundance in response to Fusarium pathogen inoculation and Fusarium mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) artificial application in two barley cultivars, Chevron and Pedant, and two wheat cultivars, Sumai 3 and SW Kadrilj, revealing contrasting level of resistance to Fusarium head blight (FHB) disease, will be selected. Identification and functional annotation of proteins revealing significant differences in protein relative abundance between control, Fusarium-treated and DON-treated variants and between Fusarium-resistant and Fusarium-sensitive cultivars will contribute to understanding the mechanisms underlying cereal resistance to Fusarium head blight disease."@en .
