"The major aim of the project is to provide new information on the effects of serotonin on neutrophils under physiological as well as under pathophysiological conditions. To reach this aim, following partial tasks will be studied as follows: - determination of the expression of specific serotonin receptors together with the activity of related G-proteins in neutrophils - determination of the expression of serotonin transporter in neutrophils and possible intracellular serotonin signalling in neutrophils (serotonylation of GTPases, interactions of serotonin with myeloperoxidase) - study of serotonin effects on neutrophils mediated by other immune cell subsets (serotonin effects on neutrophils in whole blood, isolated leukocytes, separated neutrophils, neutrophils coincubated with monocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes or platelets) - detailed evaluation of serotonin antioxidative properties against individual reactive oxygen species and of possible interference of serotonin with nitric oxide producing system"@en .
