"The aim is to study mechanisms of genesis, progresion and possible therapies of important diseases. To fulfill this aim laboratories from 6 institutes of biomedical research will focus their attention on neoplastic processes (cytokinetics of normal and tumor cells, role of oncogenes, recognition of tumor cells), immunity disorders (autoimmune diseases, alergy), diseases of gastrontestinal, cardiovascular (ischemia, hypertension) and nervous system (hypoxia and ischemia, Alzheimer disease, derangment of biological rhythms, epilepsy, trauma, pain, aging), derangements of metabolism (obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, inborn errors, mitochondrial diseases) and on toxicology including influences of environment. A broad spectrum of methods ranging from molecular genetics to behavioral testing as well as of models (isolated cells, cell and tissue cultures, tissue slices, isolated organs, experimental animals) will be used to analyze these diseases."@en . .
