"The purpose of the project is to analyse power mechanisms of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (CPC) and its organs at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (CU). Within three years, the research team will prepare a monograph of c. 300 pages, based on archive materials (especially from unexplored fonds of CU Archive) and on interviews with witnesses, covering the key themes of power and control in the normalization era. The main subjects will contain analysis of the CPC control over the faculty, the CPC influence on entrance examinations, testimonials and complex evaluations as the essential mechanism of controlling the academicians and the use of the Secret police, or StB. The establishing of power in the crucial period 1969-1973 will also be examined. The methodology will be inspired by the praxeological approach to the history of dictatorship (Eigen-Sinn).
