"The goal of the project is to examine the development of language knowledge and processing mechanisms in preschool children. The focus of interest is the ability to use case and agreement morphology to interpret the syntactic structure of transitive sentences, particularly the syntactic roles of subject and object. The project will examine children's comprehension of transitive sentences and the influence of syntactic priming on processing during comprehension. Multiple experiments using different tasks will be constructed. The experiments will use the accuracy, reaction time, and gaze-direction data as dependent variables. The aim is to test whether 3-year-olds possess morphosyntactic knowledge necessary for the interpretation of transitive sentences, and what changes occur between 3 and 5 years of age in the processing of morphological information. The project emphasizes the use of on-line measures in order to examine the process of applying morphological knowledge in real time."@en . .
