"The pyrimidine system is an essential structural motif that appears in several natural products and in many synthetic drugs. In the frame of the project, a series of pyrimidine derivatives with various substituents in positions 2, 4 and 6 will be prepared and isotopic exchange of hydrogen in the position 5 of the pyrimidine ring will be studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy in D2O (the intensity of signal of H-5 decreases due to exchange to deuterium). Obtained results will be applied to the synthesis of tritium labeled pyrimidine derivatives with a biological activity. The 15N labeled pyrimidines will be also prepared and pH dependencies of chemical shifts of H, N and C atoms and coupling constants will be studied.
