"Grasses and trifolium represent important crops with a broad range of utilisation ranging from intensive agricultural production to landscape management. Diverse applications require cultivars with different characteristics. Czech Republic belongs to leading grass and trifolium seed producers and exporters. However, this position will be threatened if new breding methodologies are not introduced in the near future. This project proposes to test the potential of molecular cytogenetic and cytometric methods in breeding of these crops. The use of novel methods will make the breeding based on polyploidization and interspecific hybridiation more effective and finally lead to shortenening of the breding process. Proposed methods will be also invaluable for testing of purity of seed lots."@en .
