"The project is oriented toward the technology of preparation of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs), basic understanding of the nonlinear optical phenomena in low-dimensional semiconductors as well as to their application in optoelectronics. The main goal are: (i) to find optimal conditions for preparation of high quality CdS and ZnS NCs by the sol-gel method, in order to have control over the average-size and size-distribution of NCs; (ii) to measure the dependence of optical gain and nonlinear optical constants of CdS and ZnS NCs on their size and concentration in SiO2 matrix with the aim to elucidate mechanism of both effects and to find optimal nanocrystalline materials for nonlinear optics. Silica matrices doped by CdS and ZnS NCs will be prepared in two modifications: (i) bulk materials (platelets of the thickness of>1 mm) and (ii) layers on the SiO2 support prepared by dip-coating."@en .
