"We propose to test whether the warning coloration of celected European Heteroptera deters universally the insectivorous songbirds from feeding upon them, using a variety of chromatically and ecologically different prey models (including non-aposematic controls) and birds differing in their foraging strategies. Basic problems: 1) Are all the aposematic Heteroptera avoided by birds, or is the situation selective from the predators viewpoint. Methods: offering living and homogenized (to avoid the effect of aposematism) bugs to individual bird species, analyzing the diet of birds in the field. 2) Are mimetic complexes of aposematic bugs real, what is their nature (Mullerian, Batesian) and phylogeny. Method: cladistic and ecological historical analysis. 3) Is the conception of aposematism anthropocentric or really conceived as such by the predator (both insects and songbirds can see in UV spectrum).
