"Under the field conditions of a mountain forest stand, the impact of the excess of PAR is harmful, because of the role of excess PAR on chlorophyll photobleaching or the induction of photoinhibition. Recent results obtained on the Norway spruce trees growing under the conditions of mountains forest stands strongly supported an existence of spruce assimilatory apparatus susceptibity to photoinhibition and the graquent occurence ofthe exessive values of PAR in the field conditions. The increased incident amount of UV-B (280-320nm) radiation resulting in a decrease of the stratospheric ozone can be regarded as the possible new harmful environmental factor influencing trees photosynthesis. Recent studies of the Norway spruce trees growing under artifically enhanced (+25%) UV-B radiation brought results about its direct harmful impact on spruce photosynthesis.
