" hydroxyl radicals" . "Ligninolytic fungi (LF) can degrade a large variety of recalcitrant pollutants and have a great potential for bioremediation. Practical application is hindered by poor knowledge of the degradation mechanisms involved. The project will specify contribution of the indivitual mechanisms (ligninolytic enzymes, cytP450 oxygenase, hydroxil radicals) to degradation of chemically different xenobiotics in highly degradative LF cultures and will define other factors affecting degradation capacity in liquid media. Comparison of enzyme activities and degradation capacities of selected LF species differing in the expression of ligninolytic enzymes, estimation of their cytP450 activities, characterization of the degradation products and a repeated use of various types of LF cultures (stationary, submerged, immobilized) in successive degradation cycles will increase the understanding of degradative mechanisms and make possible to design long-life cultures applicable to bioremediation purposes."@en .
