"The project will focus on several interrelated key factors affecting interactions between the native and non-native crayfish in Central Europe, especially with respect to colonisation capability of alien species: 1) migratory activity of the invasive American crayfish Orconectes limosus and Pacifastacus leniusculus (affecting their natural ability to colonise new localities, and get into contact with native populations), 2) less known aspects of reproductive biology of O. limosus (affecting populations growth rates), and 3) prevalence of the crayfish plague pathogen in non-native crayfish populations and potential temporal dynamics of its presence. Both short- and long-term migratory activity of the American crayfish in three different localities, combining passive PIT tags and radio-telemetry, will be studied.
