(autochthonous population) and the Low Tatra Mts. (introduced population) in Slovakia. It is a distinguished evolutionary significant unit, and is listed as critically endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In the 20th century, Alpine chamois (R. r. rupicapra) were introduced to the Velk\u00E1 Fatra and to the Slovensk\u00FD r\u00E1j. As these mountain ranges are geographically close, hybridisation with Alpine chamois, resulting from occasional migrations, might have occurred. The aim of this study is detailed analysis of the population genetic structure of chamois populations in Slovakia by using non-invasive DNA analyses (mtDNA, microsatellites, MHC) from faeces. We will focus on potential introgression of Alpine chamois to the Tatra chamois genome, gene flow pattern, MHC variability, and effect of isolation on differentiation and kinship structure.
