We will compare the response of six populations of the model plant species Aster amellus to different isolates of one model AM fungal species, obtained from the model localities, when grown in the original soils of the plant populations and in the original soils of the fungal isolates. We will further study importance of local adaptations in non-sterile soil and will compare these results with results of the cultivation experiment. We will then relate the observed differences to differences in soil conditions between the localities and genetic similarity of the plant populations.
