"Recent data indicate that H4 and H3 histones are underacetylated in both constitutive and faculative heterochromatin, while their hyperacetylation marks potentially active gene regions. Using antisera directed against acetylated isoforms of H4 and H3 and indirect immunocytochemistry we will analyse histone acetylation patterns on chromosomes and interphase nuclei to map euchromatin and heterochromatin regions. Plants offer a variety of powerful model systems that can be used to study mechanisms in differentiation and development. These include sex chromosomes of dioecious Melandrium album and Rumex acetosa, and various organs and tissues at different stages of plant development. Histone acetylation status will be studied and corrrelated with gene rich chromosome domains, telomeric and centromeric heterochromatin, cell division and metabolic activities, programmed cell death and other modifications of chromatin structure."@en .
