"The project deals with the synthesis of rigid cyclodextrin dimers composed of alpha-, beta- and gamma-cyclodextrin macrocycles bridged with multiple disulfide bonds. The number and position of the sulfanil groups in the precursors determines the number of possible isomeric dimeric products in the reaction mixture and their shape. The inner diameter of the resulting dimers can be varied depending on the cyclodextrin used. The role of various templates for the amplification of certain dimeric species as well as for the generation of more complex structures will be evaluated. The increased inner hydrophobic surface may lead to significantly higher stabilities of the inclusion complexes. The thermodynamic and kinetic stability of the complexes will be determined. The nature of the linking groups will allow their cleavage by application of external stimuli facilitating thus the guest release.
