"Molecular self-assembly phenomenon in conducting polymers can be applied to generate materials with novel optical and electrical properties. The project proposal concentrates on the spectroscopic investigation of polyaniline and polypyrrole films prepared by in-situ surface polymerization on various surface. In-situ infrared spectroscopic study of film growth directly during polymerization will be applied to study the mechanism of polymerization on molecular level. Selective deuteration will allow the experimental verification of the vibration modes assignment proposed for different types of polyaniline structures and to understand the mechanism of organization. The theoretical calculation and computer modeling will bring the results useful for understanding the structure and properties of such self-organized systems.
