Stopping phases theory supposes radiation of seismic waves from a planar finite source in such a way, that effectively only 3 points along the source area contribute to the waveform. Following inversion is based on kinematic principles, since timing of stopping phases and first arrivals must hold relations given by the geometry of the seismic source, measuring geometry, and by delays introduced by the considered velocity model. Parameterization will correspond either to circular or elliptic sources (2 or 4 parameters). Several non-linear algorithms will be tested and error estimates will be part of the solution. The knowledge about the size and orientation of finite seismic source will contribute to the understanding of the geodynamic regime in the investigated region including possible time and/or spatial dependencies."@en .
