The alloys are capable to exhibit reversible shape changes upon changes of external stress and/or temperature. This unique property is associated with martensitic transformation [MT] in solid state. Engineering applications of SMAs are steadily growing and development of new SMAs seems to be driven in present days by market demands. A main outcome ofour recent systematic experimental investigation of the MTs in single crystals made of Cu-based SMAs consist in a realization that more than three types of structural transitions have to be usually considered to explain the unique thermomechanical response of these crystals.
