"Slip transmission through grain boundaries (GBs) has been studied in previous work on bicrystals Fe-Si using X-ray diffraction topography and TEM. Experimental results and theoretical calculations indicated that the slip geometry is not the dominant factor. Stresses due to the slip bands formed in one grain and stopped at the GBs and GB dislocation structure are most important. The slip continues from new dislocation sources rather than by direct transmission of slip dislocations. The aim of this project is to detect the reasons for the impeding of the slip dislocations at the boundaries and to gain insight into the generation and activation of new sources. In situ TEM tensile tests will be used to follow dynamically the interaction of single dislocations with GB dislocation structure. The result will be used to explain the slip pattern near the boundary in the bulk. A slip pattern not limited only to the surface will be obtained using the newly introduced technique."@en .
