"The proposed project is to provide detailed data regarding population genetic structures of strains, lines and populations of common carp, Cyprinus carpio, the economically most important fish species in the Czech Republic, including its critically endangered wild form. To this goal, the project is aimed to use isozyme polymorphic markers available, to develop and use two types of markers at the DNA level, i.e. mtDNA and microsatellite VNTR loci for screening of populations and to compare informative values of all these markers. Then, to determine the sex chromosome system including establishing of the carp standard karyotype, to reveal differences in reproductive parameters in respect to strain and/or populations parameters, to establishclones by means of meiotic and mitotic gynogenesis as a model for selective breeding including genome ploidy manipulations and theory of carp breeding.
