Based on our previous findings dealing with the coincidence of the concentration of serine proteases (plasmin, plasminogen activator of urokinase type) in the cornea and tear fluid with the severity of ocular surface injury, the aim of this project is to contribute to the better elucidation of the role of proteolytic enzymes from family of matrix metalloproteinases in seriously damaged cornea and after its therapy by stem cells. Further aim of the project is to detect tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases because their inactivation often leads to the uncontrolled action of these enzymes resulting in abundant destructive processes, which are highly dangerous to the eye."@en .
