Our preliminary data indicate that MCF7 luminal-type breast cancer cells contain a small population of cells that express \u0394Np63 and these cells are relatively resistant to therapy. We hypothesize that expression of \u0394Np63 in these cells is involved in producing an undifferentiated phenotype. We intend to identify the role of p63 in breast cancer cells using over-expression strategies to uncover the ability of p63 to directly influence differentiation pathways and phenotypic markers of stem/progenitor cells and the effects of \u0394Np63 expression on their sensitivity to stress and therapeutic agents.
