"This basic research project focuses on optical manipulations with microscopic particles in air. This project will strongly enlarge current optical manipulation techniques that deal mainly with microparticles suspended in liquid medium. In contrast to liquid medium microparticles movement in air is not overdamped and therefore their dynamics is more complex. Geometry of counter-propagating laser beams with variable spatial intensity profiles presents a unique tool for generating potential wells with various profiles and acquiring of novel knowledge about behaviour of single and multiple particles in studied potential profiles. Both theoretical and experimental activities will focus on methods of optical trapping of single particles in laser beams of various properties and characterization of the trapped particle behaviour. As worldwide unique, we considerour planed experimental activities dealing with behaviour of multiple particles in interfering and non-interfering counter-propagating laser beams."@en . .
