"The aim of the project is to study the complex processes leading to formation of intermetallic layered structures and hypereutectic alloys on Al and its alloys using sacrificial Ni coatings prepared by means of thermal spraying. In dependence on the subsequent annealing temperature, the intermetallic layers at substrate-coating interface and/or reinforced Al-rich nickel aluminide particles within the substrate can be formed. During annealing above the melting point of aluminium, where in a short processing dwell the liquid aluminium phase as well as the envelope consisting of thin oxide scale is created (without substantial change of substrate dimensions), the hypereutectic alloy is formed. The processes enabling the formation of these materials will be studied by several analytical tools (optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, image analysis, chemical composition and phase analysis). The tensile tests and microhardness tests will be applied to assess the basic mechanical properties."@en . .
