Hence, the aim of the project is to study succession of intestinal microflora, especially bifidobacteria in young ruminants during the milk-feeding period. Another aim is to determine counts of main groups of microorganisms in the colon by selective media and fluorescence in situ hybridisation. Bifidobacteria will be isolated and identified by biochemical and molecular-biologic methods. Influence of microbial composition andenzymatic activity on host general health will be observed.
