"Project is devoted to the elucidation of the role of non-radiative dissipation of excitation energy (NRD) in the acclimation of higher plants to elevated irradiance. We suppose that different organization of photosystem (PS) II affects the ability of plants to regulate NRD and that this ability is directly associated with acclimation strategy of the photosynthetic apparatus to environmental stresses. The main goals of the project are: 1, to examine complex dynamics (from rapid changes to daily courses and long-term acclimation) of NRD regulation for Norway spruce and to elucidate ecophysiological significance of NRD as a factor that determines the resistance to the stresses; 2, to elucidate relationship among NRD, composition of light-harvesting complexes and photoprotective role of carotenoids; 3, to understand the nature of different PS II organization for Norway spruce and spring barley.
