"The project is aimed at evaluating possible effects of polymorphisms in the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) genes on the etiopathogenesis of atopic asthma and other clinical manifestations of allergy (allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis) as well asassessingthe contribution of individual gene polymorphisms or their combinations to the expression of intermediary markers in these diseases. The proposed genes will be studied in connection with their existing polymorphisms - especially variants whoserelationsh ip to the levels of the corresponding products is well known, or polymorphisms in the regulatory sequences (promoter region, introns). In addition, established techniques will be employed to detect novel polymorphisms (again predominantly inthe regulatory sequences).
