"1"^^ . . "Leishmaniasis (disease caused by protozoan parasite Leishmania) is considered as a model pathology mediated by cytokine imbalance. The cytokine network is important tool of immune system and signals coming from cytokine receptors are critical determinantof immune reactions. Cytokine production is under multigenic control. In our previous research, we identified several novel loci that control cytokine production in mice. To study such multigenic traits, we used special genetic tool, the Recombinant Congenic Strains (RCS) CcS/Dem series. Mouse strains differ in their sensitivity or resistance to Leishmania major infection. In present project we propose to study cytokine expression in L. major infected hybrids between susceptible strain BALB/c and resistant strain CcS-20. After genetic analysis we can identify novel genetic loci involved in genetic regulation of cytokine production after L. major infection in mice.
